I, Davros
“What makes these releases so impressive is the soundscapes devised by director Gary Russell and sound designer/composer Steve Foxon, bringing ancient Skaro alive for the listener. Continuity is spot on, from the noise of the doors opening and closing to the effect of the ‘lightening bolt’ of the new experimental weapon. Perhaps the most important element though is Foxon’s marvelous incidental score. Clearly based on themes and moods created by the legendary Dudley Simpson for Genesis of the Daleks, the composer has bridged beautifully the sombre and oppressive tone of the TV series with these audios prequels. So great is the scoring and overall sound design that it would be perfectly possible to segue straight into the soundtrack of Genesis without even spotting the join. Attention to detail is what marks out the finest dramas, and these have it in spades.”Daleks and I [Davros Appreciation Society]
“Meanwhile, Steve Foxon’s sound design and music [on 'Innocence'] evoke the ambiance of Skaro around the time of Genesis of the Daleks. The wind and door sound effects, the Dudley Simpson style instrumentation of the incidental music, even the acoustic treatment of the voices to emphasise the sibilants, all bring to mind that classic 1975 serial"Richard McGinlay [Sci-fi Online]

‘BURIED SECRETS’
“..the first thing that hits you is how much more “solid” it sounds and feels...
...one of the best theme tunes that Big Finish have created themselves”
“I was particularly impressed by Steve Foxon's sound design for Snow Blind, an element that's all but unnoticeable when it's done well. Snow Blind contains a lot of challenging aural elements - fire, blizzards, planes, gunplay, death and lashings of action. Steve managed to bring all of those to life in my ears, but his work never drew attention to itself. Big Finish obviously has a fistful of very talented sound sculptors...
.. .Steve Foxon is creating Antarctic wastes and Florentine street scenes in pure sound. What a clever sod!”

'WAR PLANET'
“..it’s all good fun and has particularly good sound effects which are best listened to at a high volume. I’d recommend purchasing the release (but I always say that) just because it’s fun and has a particularly strong production”
'JIHAD'
“...sound design is outstanding, and as with the artistry of the comic strip and the special effects of the movie, helps make Mega City One the star of the show. Everything from Dredd’s growling lawmaster bike to the background radio chatter to the roar and boom of chases and gun battles – it all sounds great! There is a sense of a cast of hundreds helping to pad out the teeming population of the metropolis.”
